George Lampke, 76, passed away suddenly April 26, 2010 at his home in Fort Collins. George was born September 9, 1933 in Dorchester, Massachusetts to Frances and Fred Lampke. George graduated from Brookline High School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Upon graduation George married his first wife Diane Kleinberg, and served in the U.S. Army. After an honorable discharge George lived in the Greater Boston area where he was employed by Raytheon for many years, followed by Xyvision. George travelled both nationally and internationally with the Appalachian Mountain Club, and enjoyed white water canoeing and skiing. He was a computer engineer who proudly sported his pocket protector while commuting on his motorcycle or in his sports car. George enjoyed contra dancing which is where he met and courted his current wife of 21 years, Karen Lampke, as they spun across the dance floor. Upon retirement George and Karen moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where they travelled on many special camping trips to Dowdy Lake and enjoyed attending local music festivals. George cherished trips back east to see his children, and the hours he spent camping, building garden railroads and doing lego robotics with his grandchildren. In recent years George and Karen travelled annually to Maui, Hawaii where they could be found on the patio at Napili Shores watching the whales breach offshore. George is survived by his wife Karen, his sister Carole LaRoche and twin brother Sydney Lampke, children Barbara Conte and Barry Lampke (Jenny Holliday), his step children Sonya Whitesell (Justin), Erika Campbell (Cam), and his grandchildren Graham, Jill, Ben, Sarah, Willa and Dylan. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Herbert and Rhona. Private memorial gatherings will be held in Fort Collins and Massachusetts. Memorial contributions may be made to Engineers Without Borders-USA, or the Pacific Whale Foundation.
