Glen Lester Steffen

Sep 20, 1921 — Mar 9, 2015

Glen Steffen, 93, beloved father and grandfather, peacefully passed into the presence of his Savior, surrounded by family on March 9, 2015. He was born on September 20, 1921 to Albert and Emily Steffen in Culbertson, NE, where he was raised.

Glen enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in WWII and later in Korea. Glen worked for over 37 years as a telephone engineer for Mountain Bell/Western Electric before retiring in 1983.

On December 9, 1961, Glen met Esther Brooksmith at a workplace Christmas party in Cheyenne. They were engaged on March 9, 1962 and married on June 9, 1962. Thereafter, Glen and Esther celebrated their "anniversary" on the ninth of every month of their married life. Glen and Esther spent the next 51 years together in Cheyenne and Fort Collins, raising their "yours, mine and ours" family of eight, working, travelling and enjoying their time with each other, friends and family. Esther passed away in October 2013 and Glen went home to join her on the anniversary of their engagement.

Glen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, enjoyed traveling, watching sports and news, and even enjoyed working on the honey-do list, at his own deliberate pace. Glen's life was rooted in his faith and he reflected the love of Christ to those around him in his gentle manner, kind words and hugs. He was always there if you needed him. He was a calming influence wherever he went and his lap was a favorite place for little ones to take a nap.

Glen is survived by sons Leon Steffen (Laurie), Kerwin Steffen (Lisa), John Brooksmith (Tammy), Gary Brooksmith (Kim), and Rex Steffen (Joleen), daughters Lisa Allen (Cola) and Shawn Sjogren (Brian), 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Esther Steffen, daughter Janell Woolridge and grandson Benjamin Brooksmith.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 20 at LifePointe Church, Glen's home church, 900 E. Prospect Ave., Fort Collins, CO.
