Fort Collins

Glenn Roy Schmidt, 83, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026.

Glenn was born on February 22nd, 1943, in Michicot, Wisconsin to Adelia and Arno Schmidt. and spent the first 20 years of his life living on a small Wisconsin dairy farm. A place so quiet he could lay in bed and listen to Lake Michigan five miles away. From there he headed to the University of Wisconsin where his plan to become a high school vo tech teacher evolved into a PhD in meat science. Along the way he made many close friendships and met his wife, Jean. Together they set forth around the world with extended stops in New Zealand, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Germany, and England. Plus their many travels included passing through Afghanistan and too many places to list here. Mixed in with all of this, Glenn and Jean moved to Illinois and started a family bringing Mark and Kurt into the world. After a few years on the faculty at University of Illinois, Glenn took a position at Colorado State University as a professor of meat science. For the next 47 years Glenn called Fort Collins home including a full career at Colorado State University, serving leadership roles at Rotary, and continuing to travel.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Jean; his son Mark and wife Marissa and their sons Mateo and Grant; and his son Kurt and partner Becky; and his children Sofia, Thomas, and Lucia.
