Glenn Sitzmann, 80 of Fort Collins , passed peacefully with his family present, January 23rd at Poudre Valley Hospital after a long illness. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 27th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 5450 South Lemay Ave., Fort Collins. Glenn Arnold Sitzmann was born November 5, 1931 to John and Leila Sitzmann in Lemars , Iowa . He grew up in nearby Sioux City , Iowa where he was an All State Track and Field Champion at Leeds High School with the class of 1950. After graduation, Glenn served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War at Ft. Lee , VA. While stationed at Ft. Lee , he met Juliet Miller and they were married Dec. 1, 1951. They recently celebrated a full 60 years. Together they had eight children, one of whom, John, preceded his death in November of 2010. Glenn worked for the U. S. Postal Service for 20 years, beginning as a Railway Post Office Clerk. He and his family moved around the country until they settled in Englewood , CO in 1967. He retired from the Post office in 1975 and began studies at Metro State College earning a degree in Business Management and Accounting. He worked for many years managing properties in and around the Fort Collins and Loveland area. Glenn retired in 1985 for good, mostly due to health reasons. Over the years, Glenn stayed very active by attending daily Mass and keeping up with his children. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts and was a member of The Knights of Columbus, the Elks and the Moose Lodge. He was an avid outdoorsman and simply loved "His" mountains. Glenn enjoyed traveling, especially in his motor-home. His family was his greatest pride and he was a very private man. In 1999, Glenn and Juliet moved to Fort Collins to enjoy the good life up here. He loved all sports, namely, Colorado teams, Broncos, Rockies , Avalanche, CSU. Most of all he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in various athletics and activities over the years. Glenn is survived by his wife, Juliet; seven children, Pamela (Curt) Gress of Byers, CO, Doug (Pam) Sitzmann of Centennial, CO, Jeff (Mickey) Sitzmann of Arvada, CO, Tim (Valerie) Sitzmann of Littleton, CO, Todd (Luan) Sitzmann of Cabot, Arkansas, Lisa (Chip) Carrell of Ft. Collins, CO, and Lori (Steve) Kellar of Centennial, CO; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Susie Sitzmann of Denver, CO; his brother, Robert Sitzmann of Storm Lake, IA; two sisters, Celesta Barnes of Canyon Lake, CA and Maureen Persico of New Brighton, MN; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, Glenn's family requests that donations be made to the heart/lung or cancer charity of their choice.
