H. Mack Fanning

d. Sep 12, 2024

(Hal) Mack Fanning died surrounded by his loving family on September 12, 2024, in Loveland, Colorado, at the age of 85.

Mack was born on May 7, 1939, in Imperial, NE, to Halbert Fanning and Esther Metcalf. He graduated from Waneta High School in 1956. He married Sandra Ann Cornelius in 1961. After their wedding, they continued farming in Madrid, NE. They began their family with two sons, Mike and Greg. They moved to Longmont, CO, in 1968, where he was a firefighter. They added a daughter, Julie May. Later they moved to Berthoud, CO, and he became a machinist at Woodward Governor in Ft. Collins. They lived in Berthoud for many years, and all three children graduated from Berthoud High School.

Eventually, they moved to Eaton, CO, seeking a more rural environment. While living in Eaton, they enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow up. They also took pleasure in the companionship of their dogs. Later, they moved to Loveland to be closer to their family.

Mack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra Ann Cornelius, sons Michael (Shannon) and Gregory (Kathi) of Loveland, and daughter Julia Sperl (Brett) of Craig. Grandchildren Alex (Alyssa), Alison, Madison, Liz, Cass, Emily (Kyle), and Andy, as well as eight great-grandchildren. Siblings Richard Fanning and Laurain Tatum.
