Harry C McGuirk, 85, of Fort Collins, Colorado, died December 4, 2009 at the Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of the Rockies. Visitations will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today (Sunday) at Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Dr., Suite E, Fort Collins. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 8:00 pm. A mass of the resurrection will be held at 10:00 am, Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Mountain & Howes Ave.. Interment will be in Pinelawn National Cemetery, Long Island, New York. Harry C. McGuirk was born August 23, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to Harry and Florence McGuirk. When he was 7 years old, his family moved to Maspeth, NY. He served in the Army during WWII and was always proud of his service to our country. He served in the Infantry in Africa and Southern Italy and was part of the 2nd invasion in Southern France. Later, he assisted with concentration camp cleanup, and always bragged about having slept in General Rommel's bed once he was defeated. When he returned home from the war, Harry attended Brooklyn and Hofstra Colleges and became an industrial engineer. He worked for the government and excelled in electronics. He married Katherine Kelly on November 28, 1948 in Flushing, LI, NY and together they have four children. Harry joined the New York National Guard and eventually rose to the rank of First Lieutenant prior to resigning his commission. An Irish Catholic, he was also active in the VFW and American Legion in Kings Park, NY, and loved the game of golf. He last worked with ITT in New Jersey and came to live in Fort Collins in 1997. Harry is survived by his wife, Katherine; two sons, Tom McGuirk of LaPorte and Dan McGuirk of Ft. Collins; two daughters, Mary Laugen of Ft. Collins and Kathy Kelly-Weston of Denver; his sister, Virginia McCauley of Palisades, NY; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
