Helen Lucille Cook passed away on May 16, 2023, in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was 83 years old.
Helen was born in Denver, Colorado to Jesse and Ruby McDonald on April 11, 1940. She was preceded in death by her five older brothers, Willis McDonald, Leland McDonald, Jack McDonald, Jerry McDonald and Kenny McDonald. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Richard) Jordan of Galena, Illinois and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Helen graduated from Greeley High School in 1958. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado. Later, Helen returned to school as a single parent to earn a master's degree in special education. She was a special education teacher in the Poudre R-1 school district for 35 years. She was a passionate teacher who taught her students how to discover their own gifts and share them with the world.
Helen had a deep affinity for animals. She always had pets and was affectionately nicknamed "The Dog Whisperer" by those who witnessed her special way with them. After her retirement from teaching, Helen pursued her lifelong passion for art. She was a talented and prolific painter who became very involved in her local art association group.
Helen Cook will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her. Donations can be made in her name to the Larimer Humane Society.
