Helen Sanae Horii, 101, passed away at Brookdale Assisted Living in Fort Collins on June 30, 2023. She was born August 20, 1921, in San Juan Bautista, California to Shiro and Kitayo Kajiko. Her parents immigrated from Japan, and she was the eldest of five children. She was married to Shigeru "Roy" Horii who preceded her in death.
Helen grew up in California, but relocated with her family to a Japanese Internment Camp in Poston, Arizona at the beginning of the second world war. Once married, Helen became a homemaker living in eastern Colorado where Roy was engaged in farming at Prospect Valley and Wray, Colorado.
Her passions were her family, raising flowers in her yard, trout fishing, gardening, and traveling. She and Roy have cruised, toured Europe and South America, and visited Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. She traveled to China with her son Eugene. Roy and Helen spent their retirement years living in Greeley, Colorado.
Survivors include three children, Eugene Horii of Fresno, California, Diane (Larry, Deceased) Hunter of Denver, Colorado, and Howard (Irene) Horii of Meritt Island, Florida; granddaughter Charity Hunter of Denver, Colorado, granddaughter Michelle Hunter of Fort Collins, Colorado, grandson Brandon (Noriko) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and granddaughter, Scharlotte (Scott) Baker of Clermont, Florida; and four great-grandsons. A private "celebration of life" for the family will be held in lieu of a service.
