Helen Susan Newman

Fort Collins, Colorado resident Helen Susan Newman passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at her home in Fort Collins. She was 88 years of age.

Susan was born on July 9, 1935, in Genoa, Illinois, the daughter of Griffith and Agnes (Holroyd) Reid. She was raised in Genoa, Illinois and graduated from Genoa-Kingston High School in 1952. She attended Northern Illinois University, graduating in 1956 with an English degree.

Susan was united in marriage to Raymond Lincoln Newman on June 15, 1957, in Denver, Colorado. She taught English for four years then stopped in 1962 to raise a family. She and her husband eventually started a trophy business in 1972 called All-Sports Trophies.

Susan was everyone's friend and counselor. Customers would walk into the store for a ten-minute pick-up but walk out an hour later having told her all about their lives. Susan loved antique collecting, having a really good debate with friends, and cooking, as those who partook of her meals would agree. She loved to laugh and did so at all of our jokes which made us feel as though we were the funniest people in the world.
She will be missed by not only her family but by countless friends and associates.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, sister Frances Domenici, and her brother Donald Reid. Surviving family members include her loving husband of 65 years, Raymond, her children Margo Newman, Valerie Newman, and Forrest Newman and his wife Nancy Bureau.

Cremation was chosen and there are no services planned at this time.
