We are saddened by the passing of Irene Marie Rasmussen, née Maughan on October 30, 2022 in Fort Collins, CO. She has been living with her kidney transplant for a number of years.
Irene was born February 9, 1945 to George Albert Maughan and Phyllis, née Grimsted, who preceded her in death in 2014 and 1968 respectively. She attended local grade schools and Dodgeville, Wisconsin high school. Then she was a member of the Finley Hospital nursing school class of 1966.
On August 24, 1968, she married Ralph Paul Rasmussen. Upon his graduation from Wartburg seminary in 1969 they moved to Palmer, Kansas where they lived until 1972, then to Marquette, Nebraska until 1975. In 1975 they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. In 1977 she was chosen director of nursing at the Loveland, Colorado Good Samaritan Village, where she served until 1990. After a brief stint in nursing in Longmont, Colorado she was a nurse at Poudre Valley hospital until 2002. Irene received a kidney transplant in 2006.
Irene has always been known as a leader and caring friend, and so leaves a host of friends and colleagues. She is survived by her husband, Ralph and son David, as well as her brothers David Maughan and Frederic Maughan and their respective families in three generations. Memorials may be given to the American Nurses Association ANA Pac or as the giver deems appropriate.
