James C. Du Rell, 90, of Loveland, CO passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 surrounded by family.
James was born November 23, 1934 in Brentwood AR to James Blaine Du Rell and Pearl (Lydia) Du Rell. He was the second son amongst 11 children. His childhood was spent growing up between Arkansas and Washington state. In 1951 at 17 years old he chose to join the Navy to serve his country and see the world. During his early enlistment he met his late wife Judith who was a Navy nurse. They married in 1957. His military career sent him overseas along with some stateside assignments. His tour in Japan was one he spoke fondly of. His Navy career spanned over 25 years serving from 1951-1967 active duty then 1967-1977 in the reserves. After being honorably discharged, he found a new career in the Food Service Dept at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD. He and his late wife both worked for the Federal Gov't til his retirement in 1990 after a combination of Military and Federal employment of over 38 years.His early retirement years were busy and filled with caring for the grandkids. He was known and will be missed for his love of golf, cars and Dashounds of which he had many. He spent the majority of his marriage and Federal career on the East Coast. After the passing of his late wife in 2016, he moved out west to Colorado. While living in Colorado he enjoyed golfing til 87 years old, his home in Loveland and the many trips he took to Estes Park and Black Hawk casinos.
James is survived by his daughter Pamela Bernier (Norm) of Loveland, CO, two sisters, Doris Whittaker (Victor) of Florida, and Jackie Scott (Gary) of Missouri, 6 grandchildren David Bernier (Linnea) of Michigan, Buddy Sabte (Lauren) of Maryland, Cori Russell (Paul) of Virginia, Jimmy Du Rell of Georgia, Daniel Bernier in the USAF, and Jenna Du Rell of Maryland, and 6 great grandchildren.
James is preceded in death by his parents, his late wife Judith A. Du Rell, his brother Chuck Steuer, sisters Violet Turner, Lilly Mae Strong, Anne M. Magaw, Shirley Graves, Mildred Du Rell, Madline Pfaff, and Elaine Cowles, his son Jeff S.Du Rell, daughter Brenda A. Lightcap and grandson Tyler J. Lightcap.
No service is scheduled, burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
