James Steven Lucas

Jan 26, 1960 — Feb 15, 2024

Jim Lucas, 64, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away from liver failure on February 15th, 2024. His last days were spent surrounded by family and his beloved dog, Chewy.

Jim was born on January 26, 1960, in Cheyenne, WY. He grew up in Fort Collins where he made friends easily and kept them for life. He married young and had two beautiful children with his wife, Joyce. During his work at Platte Valley Lumber he developed a love for woodworking. Later in life he switched careers and worked at Summitstone helping others in their journey towards recovery from addictions. He dedicated his personal life to doing the same for those in need around him. For the last 16 years, Jim's deep bond with his beloved Chiweenie, Chewy, deeply enriched his life. The sight of the two of them together always brought a smile to everyone they met.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed cooking, biking & making people laugh. Early in his career at Summitstone, he discovered an outlet to express himself through oil painting. In this, he found his voice. He said that with a paintbrush in hand, he experienced peace and clarity of mind. His artwork, showcased at the Murphy Center for Hope in 2023, touched many, including a collector from New York who purchased some of his pieces. This recognition brought Jim immense pride and joy.

Jim is survived by his son Jeremiah & family: Rachel, Logan & Lorenzo; daughter Keturah & family: Carl & Payzlee; brother Michael, his 2 sons & 1 daughter; sisters & their families: Nancy, Tim Hixon & daughter; Diane, Dale Black & son; Rebecca, Bruce Hood & daughter; numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, Robert Lucas, and beloved mother, Ann Lucas.

A service to honor Jim's life will be held at Goes Funeral Care on March 15, 2034, at 10:30 am.

Rest in peace, Jim. Your kindness, resilience, and passion for helping others will always be remembered. You are in our hearts forever.
