James P. Massa, 68, of Laporte, CO, passed away at sunset on October 14, 2021 at his home. Jim was born in Mansfield, OH, to Paul and Gladys (Downs) Massa. As a child, he was very fond of the small town atmosphere where he grew up. After graduating college, he got the travel bug, and went on to live in Washington D.C, Germany, and eventually landed in Colorado in 1981. His career in finance with the federal government spanned 41 years.
Jim loved his soulmate Janet, and his three sons and two grandkids. He always tried to put his family before himself and pushed himself to be better constantly. He was a voracious reader and curious about everything. He enjoyed live music, great food, and sports. He ran 30 marathons and was a member of the Fort Collins Running Club. He completed Ride the Rockies six times and the Pikes Peak Ascent 19 times. In 2018 & 2019 he completed the ascent and marathons back to back making him a "double doubler". In his retirement, he became an active volunteer for the Colorado Democratic Party.
Jim is survived by his partner, Janet Roderick, of La Porte, CO, sons Nick Massa of Colorado Springs, Tim Massa of Mandeville LA, and Chris Massa of Ventura CA, granddaughter Adelina, and grandson Porter, as well as his siblings Theresa, Paula, Rene, and Gerry.
