On the afternoon of August 1st, Jim passed into the loving arms of our Lord at Pathways Hospice, in Loveland, Co. Jim was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to John and Nellie Nye. He was the third of five children from this union. At the age of 17, he joined the Army. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operation in World War II. Upon his discharge from the Army, he married Jean McGowan, they had a daughter, Jeanne Marie. They later divorced. During the Korean War, Jim served in the Air Force. He was based first in Germany, and last at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wy. During his time at Warren, he met the love of his life Dona Fitch in Ft. Collins. They married on September 5,1953. They had three children, Cheryl, Jim, and John. Jim worked for the City of Ft. Collins for 38 ½ years. First in the Water Department, but for the bulk of his time in the Engineering Department as a Surveyor. He also worked nights and weekends at Jax Surplus, Cloverleaf Dog Track, and the Safari Night Club. He also had a surveying business with his long time friend Jim Hoff. Jim is survived by his loving wife Dona, his daughter Jeanne (Mike) and their two sons, Mike and Christopher, his daughter Cheryl (Marty) and their children Jason, Julie, and Matt, his son Jim (Nancy) and their children Sarah and Adam, and his son John. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends to numerous to mention. Jim was the very definition of "The Greatest Generation". He would sacrifice himself for family and friends. Cremation has taken place, and as per Jim's request, no services will be held. His family will hold a Celebration of Jim's life in the near future.
