James Duane Sanford was born August 1, 1937, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He began his education in the public schools of LaCrosse, completing a bachelor's degree in 1960 with honors at the LaCrosse State Teachers College. (Name changed later to the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse).
Jim married LeeAnn Shafman in 1959 and was drafted into the army soon after graduation. He spent two years at Ft. Riley working on getting the payroll out for Big Red 1, and then four years in the army reserves.
Upon completion of his years in the army, Jim began his lifetime career in medicine working for the UpJohn Company as a sales representative in Minnesota. His later years with UpJohn were spent working as a liaison with doctors administering new treatments for infectious diseases. Jim enjoyed his career with UpJohn, winning many awards, thus enabling him to travel and meet many interesting people throughout his working years.
Jim participated in various community groups during his working years. He was honored as a distinguished Toastmaster from his Toastmaster speaking group. He was an active member of his preferred political party, and he became president of three community homeowner associations thereby giving of his time to better his community.
Jim has been a strong follower of Jesus and has been a part of his local churches.
On June 19, 1987, Jim married Helen Marie Olson in Burnsville, Minnesota. Both Jim and Helen continued on their career paths and spent their leisure hours traveling, hiking, golfing, and skiing.
Jim is survived by his wife, Helen; daughters, Laura Lee Borski and Sara Kathryn Pacholke; son Paul James Sanford; grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth David Sanford (Julie Ann) and Allen Roger Sanford (Maxine).
A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2023, at Timberline Church (East Auditorium), 2908 S. Timberline Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
