Jane Lyon Utiger, 57, of Lyons Street, Fort Collins, passed away suddenly on January 5th. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of Sally and Dr. Robert Utiger. She attended Ithaca College and graduated from Colorado State University. She was a registered nurse, graduating in 2004 from the nursing program at Front Range Community College and later took over 60 hours of courses from the American Red Cross Centennial Chapter. Jane worked in various divisions of the Red Cross, most notably in Disaster Health Services and Family Services providing emergency assistance. The Red Cross sent her to help victims of such disasters as the Katrina Hurricane and the California Wildfires. Jane was a dedicated athlete, becoming an All American swimming candidate in high school and an accomplished bicyclist in her adult life, completing the Ride the Rockies Race several times. She is survived by a son Seth Lyon Utiger Kienzle, a sister Nancy Murphy of Hampstead, New Hampshire, a brother David Utiger of Peru, Vermont, her mother Sally Utiger of Weston, Massachusetts, and her former husband Robert L. Kienzle of Haines, Alaska and Ft. Collins. Service arrangements are pending at Goes Funeral Care. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross, Centennial Chapter.
