Jay Schippers

Sep 7, 1949 — May 23, 2012

After many years of pain and suffering, Jay Schippers, Sr is now resting with our Lord. He passed away in his Fort Collins home May 23, 2012 with his family at his side. Jay was born September 7, 1949 in Green Bay, WI to Theodore & Ruth Schippers. He attended school in Green Bay and Albuquerque, NM while at the same time serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He met the love of his life, Lorraine Mader, and married her in 1973. He worked very hard in hardware and wholesale lumber his whole working life in New Mexico, eventually relocating to Kansas City, MO in 1979. Amongst all the long hours working to support his family, he found time to volunteer for anyone, anywhere! "Look for me, I'm the tall guy" is all he would say and people found him. In 1991, Jay & Lorraine came to Fort Collins, CO. Always active and putting everyone else first, you would find Jay volunteering numerous hours with the Knights of Columbus Council 1214 (Saint Joseph Parish), Catholic Charities Northern, Poudre Valley Health Systems and Colorado Welcome Center. Simultaneously "keeping an eye on" and playing with his grandchildren. Jay is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children Jay Jr (Stephanie) and Karla; three grandchildren, JayPaul III, Samantha and Joseph; and three siblings Peggy Johnson, Jim Schippers and Joseph Schippers. He is preceded in death by his parents Ted Schippers and Ruth Schippers; brother Jack Schippers; father-in-law Philip Mader and son-in-law Brad Maraccini. In lieu of flowers, the family is grateful for contributions to Catholic Charities Northern or Pathways Hospice in care of Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Drive STE E, Fort Collins, CO 80524. A Celebration Mass of Jay's life will be held on Tuesday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 5450 S Lemay Ave in Fort Collins. Internment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
