Jerome W. Soukup passed away on October 21, 2024, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 2011.
Jerry, as he was called by all who knew him, was born on June 20, 1930 in David City, Nebraska to Charles and Emily Soukup.
He grew up in Crete, NE and joined his father's hardware store in York, NE upon graduating from high school. He married Patricia on April 10, 1950, and they spent 61 years together until her death. Together, they had six children, all born in York, NE.
In 1962, Jerry and his father stood on the banks of the Poudre River and made the decision to move to Fort Collins, opening Soukup's Apparel for Men. Jerry and Patricia proceeded to raise their family, instilling a competitive nature and the desire to succeed. This resulted in all the children graduating from college and developing successful careers.
Jerry served as President of the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce and is credited with the initial beautification of Old Town through the planting of trees in front of his store along College Avenue. From there, Fort Collins changed the streets of Old Town into what they are today.
Jerry will be known for his love of family, hiking, the mountains, and fishing. He is survived by his sons Mark (Jenny), Brian (Janice), Kevin, Kent (Cynthia) and Kurt (Linda) and daughter Sharon Baeverstad (Harry); as well as 16 grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to join us for a Rosary beginning at 9:00 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Collins. A reception will follow in Meredith Hall in the basement of the church.
