Jesse James (Jim) Saffer passed away on February 7, 2010 due to heart failure. He was born on April 24, 1930 in Winchester, IL to Ollie Ball and Jesse Saffer. He was a retired sign painter and an accomplished artist. Jim loved fishing, the mountains, model airplanes, crosswords and his recent discovery, email. Most of all, Jim loved his family and he thoroughly enjoyed his great-grandchildren. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia Sellars Saffer; daughters Sherri (Bob) Griffin & Merri Engel; granddaughters Melisa (Ryan) Gloden, Kerri (Ryan) Tietz & Micki (Paul) Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Sheridan Tietz, Gage and Gavin Gloden, and Henry Phillips; as well as many nieces and nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Betty Borchers and Katherine Cox, and his son-in-law Clayton Engel. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 12 at 3:00 pm at Drake Road Allnutt Chapel, reception to follow. The family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association.
