Joan (Sautter) Mathis completed her journey on this earth on January 22, 2025, joining her Lord in Heaven.
Joan was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on August 24, 1952, and grew up in Tipp City, Ohio with her parents and two older brothers. Joan graduated from high school in Tipp City in 1970 and started college at Bowling Green University where she was in the Kappa Delta sorority making life-long friends. She transferred to Colorado State University where she received her degree in Forestry Management. She was initially hired by the US Forest Service as a computer tech but loved the opportunities to work outdoors marking timber sales and was a part of several major fire-fighting operations in the Northern Colorado mountains. She loved hiking the Colorado trails and exploring the small mountain towns.
Joan went on to work at Conrad Ball Middle School for sixteen years as the registrar and counseling secretary. During her time there she made lasting friendships and was a mom to many—taking kids in if they needed a place to sleep, a warm dinner, some motherly advice, or just that warm Joanie hug that we all know too well.
"Joanie" enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and was especially creative in trying to make holidays special for everyone. She always had a photo album handy to show guests the family she loved and the adventures they shared.
Joanie's warm, kind-hearted spirit made friends and strangers feel welcome and at ease. She embraced life, carried out her faith, and loved family and friends fiercely. She was a bright light in her community. To interact with her was to experience comfort and laughter in abundance.
She will be sorely missed but is now at peace in the Heaven she so dearly believed in.
A devoted mother, wife, and sister, Joan is survived by two brothers, Raymond (Arun) Sautter and Howard (Dianna) Sautter; son, Andrew Mathis; daughter, Jodi Mathis; step-children: Jonathon Mathis, Jason Mathis, Justin Mathis, Kareena Tomky, Kasonda Drefke, and Kristeena Mathis; grandchildren: Willow, Iyla, and Oaken plus 16 step-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and William Sautter and her husband, Roger Mathis.
A celebration of life for Joan will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon at Foundations Church at 1380 North Denver Avenue in Loveland, CO 80537.
