John William Collier, 57, of Fort Collins died Friday, May 29, at the Pathways Hospice Care Center in Loveland. John won his year-long battle with lung cancer - his reward is Jesus Christ. Born November 29, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio, John was a son of the late Robert Nelson and Lottie Pendergraft Collier. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving his country as a security policeman at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. John had a long career as Executive Director and Consultant for several government housing agencies across the U.S. Upon his retirement and relocation to Colorado, he managed self-storage units in Grand Junction and Fort Collins. One of John's greatest passions was photography. He had a love and great talent for capturing landscapes, especially the Rocky Mountains and Autumn in New England. His photography has won numerous awards and has been included in several publications. John is survived by his daughter, Regan (Eric) Nichols of Lexington, Kentucky, and his granddaughter, Elizabeth. He is also survived by five brothers, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Collins. On Monday at 1:00 p.m. a memorial service will be held at the church led by Rev. Sharon Benton.
