John C. Collins Jr.

d. Feb 17, 2025

John Christopher Collins ("Jc") was born in Charleston, South Carolina on September 4th, 1960 to John and Patricia Collins. At a young age, his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he lived until he went to college in 1978. He graduated in 1982 from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in electrical engineering.

After college, he moved to Denver for his first job as a pipeline engineer with Texaco. It wasn't long before he met his future wife, Missy Severance who taught Spanish at a high school in Loveland. The two would be married for over 40 years.

Jc moved from being a pipeline engineer to working for Platte River Power Authority in Fort Collins where he enjoyed a long, successful career and was highly respected by city owners and other regional utilities. As a Design Electrical Engineer, he was responsible for designing and commissioning the Richard Lake Substation.

For several years, he served as a Planning Engineer and was responsible for upgrading and enhancing the Platte River transmission system which entailed a great deal of coordination with neighboring utilities in the Front Range area. He served as the Manager of Engineering before becoming the Director of Power Delivery.

While working hard for his family, Jc and Missy lovingly raised their daughters in Loveland, CO near family and friends. They attended Grace Community Church where Jc served as an Elder for several years and was the pitcher of the church's softball team. He also taught children's church and served as a Bible Study Fellowship Leader. Jc dedicated his life to living out his faith and honoring God.

Jc loved playing sports as well as attending his daughters' sporting events. He taught them to love God's creation and frequently took them camping, hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking. He was the leader of the train every Saturday morning at Skate Castle. Each summer, the family would load up the van and drive to his favorite place: Tug Lake in northern Wisconsin. This is where he had spent his childhood summers with family and friends, such as the Nicklaus family, helping out on their family farm, fishing, and water skiing.

John "Jc" passed away on February 17, 2025 surrounded by his family. His death was the result of a five year courageous battle with two types of dementia. Jc had been diagnosed in 2020 with early onset Alzheimer's disease and Pick's disease which is a rare form of frontotemporal degeneration.

Jc is survived by his wife, Missy, and three daughters Joey, Molly and Darby. He is also survived by his loving mother, Patricia, and his precious grandson, Matson Christopher Blank.

The memorial will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Agave Room at 149 W. Mountain Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80524 from 1 to 4 PM.
