John Koelsch

John Carl Koelsch, age 61, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away among his loving family on July 2, 2024 due to acute myeloid leukemia. John was a lover of art, an engineer and philosopher by inclination, a lawyer by training and a traveler of the world with his beloved wife Debbie and sons Theo and Spencer. John was blessed (in his words) to have the opportunity to raise his sons and be involved in many aspects of their lives including volunteering at their schools, daily carpool driving, and attending their concerts and marching band performances. A lifelong learner and a crossword puzzle and trivia 'expert', he especially enjoyed volunteering with Knowledge Bowl and continued volunteering up until this last fall. John enjoyed being the family chef extraordinaire, devising and building home improvement projects, all types of landscape work, gardening and making stained-glass. He also enjoyed hiking, skiing, stand-up paddleboarding or basically anything that got him outdoors. Family and friends looked forward to his yearly Christmas letters with enthusiasm due to his dry sense of humor. He loved all kinds of music and always looked forward to the next Fort Collins Wind Symphony concert. The most important things in John's life were his family, followed by his friends and the 'next thing' (or 10!) on his project list.

John was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on December 28th 1962, the son of Carl and Joan (Lindgren) Koelsch. He attended Kimball High School, Michigan State University and Wayne State Law School.

John leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of almost 37 years Deborah Weiskittel, his sons Theo Koelsch (and his wife Melissa Merkel) and Spencer Koelsch, as well as his mother Joan Koelsch (his father Carl preceded him in death), sister Claire Koelsch Sand, brother David Koelsch and his wife Liz Keyes, sister-in-law Barbara Weiskittel and brother-in-law Carl Weiskittel and his wife Jane.

A Celebration of Life will be held a later date.
