Judith Pike

Judith Francis was born to James and Sylvia Francis of Elmhurst, IL, on February 11th, 1942. Judy, the youngest of three children, possessed an adventurous spirit that defined her remarkable life journey. Her love for exploration led her to save her earnings to acquire a buck knife, a companion for her woodland adventures near her childhood home. Amidst the backdrop of Elvis and Bill Haley records, Judy imparted her zest for life, even teaching her youngest son the iconic dance, "The Stroll," many years later.

Growing up in the Francis household meant embracing Catholic values and a commitment to academic excellence instilled by her father. The Francis home was a serious home. Judy's dad raised the family to be devout Catholics and to study hard. Unfortunately, before Judy left for college, her mother Sylvia passed away. In her pursuit of education she followed her sister Gail to St. Mary's College of Notre Dame, where she met her husband Terry at a school picnic. From then on, their relationship blossomed through school events and Notre Dame football games.

After tying the knot in Elmhurst, IL, Judy and Terry embarked on a journey to Pueblo, CO, where Judy embarked on a career as a Home Economics teacher. However, the call of motherhood beckoned, prompting Judy to gracefully transition into the role of a devoted mother to their five children: Melissa, Jennifer, Timothy, Megan, and Casey.

In 1980, the family relocated to Ft. Collins, where Judy's unwavering dedication shone brightly. Her commitment to family, faith, and community defined her character. An active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Judy extended her hands in service by volunteering for various causes. She served many years at Mary's Closet, where she provided clothing to those in need. She sewed tirelessly for the St. Joseph Christmas Bazaar, crafting beautiful creations to contribute to the church community. Her selflessness and compassion touched the lives of many, embodying the true spirit of generosity and kindness.

Judy's talents were boundless. A skilled seamstress, she crafted exquisite garments for her children, especially her three daughters, from infancy through high school dances. Her passion for horses reignited after her children were grown, leading her to compete in dressage events and embracing new adventures with the same spirit that defined her youth. As an exceptional hostess and baker, Judy's festive desserts and Christmas confections were eagerly awaited by family and friends, adding warmth and sweetness to every gathering. Additionally, Judy was an avid golfer, sharing the sport with her beloved husband Terry. She would participate in women's leagues or just enjoy rounds with friends throughout the years. Judy was blessed to have many friends and she cherished the camaraderie they shared. With them, She enjoyed countless years of various card and canasta games. These times spent with her friends brought joy and comfort to her, especially in her final years

Even with all of her responsibilities, Judy made time for her passion for gardening as was evidenced by the beautiful gardens and rose bushes surrounding their home. Unfortunately, her sons' driveway basketball games took a toll on some of those gardens. Nevertheless, Judy was often asked to share cuttings and advice from friends, family, and neighbors, a testament to her green thumb and expertise in gardening.

In the midst of life's challenges, Judy's unwavering faith and resilience guided her family through trials and triumphs. Her legacy of love, strength, and grace lives on through her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly.

Judith Francis is survived by her sister, Gail, her children Melissa Crowley (Charles), Jennifer Madrick (John), Timothy Pike (Audrey), Megan Kearney (Brian), and Casey Pike (Antoinette), along with nineteen adoring grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Terry, her father James, mother Sylvia, and brother James.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Collins, with a Memorial Mass following at 9:30 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2024, Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
