June Evelyn Mihalek, age 92 of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly of Pontiac, Michigan, died October 25, 2009 at a local rehabilitation facility. Cremation is planned and a committal service will be held at noon Wednesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. June Evelyn Bowman was born January 8, 1917 in Pontiac to Herbert and Evelyn Bowman. She married John Mihalek on June 16, 1946 in Pontiac and together they have a son and a daughter. June and John built their home, with their own hands, and lived in it for 53 years before moving to Ft. Collins nine years ago. June worked as a research librarian for the Pontiac Public Schools for many years and enjoyed being active in the outdoors. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Atonement Presbyterian Church. She liked dancing and camping and traveling the country in their converted van across the United States. She also enjoyed traveling internationally. June liked sewing, gardening, knitting and socializing at her women's club and was still cross country skiing and snowmobiling at the age of 75. She is survived by her husband, John; son, Bruce (and his wife, Dixie) Mihalek of Ft. Collins; her daughter, Marjorie (and husband, Ed) Atkinson of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Greg Hixon, Debbie Swaim, Melissa Unter, Seth, Sam and Angela Mihalek; four great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Chris, Jordan and Delaney; one great-great-granddaughter, Carley; a brother, Jon (and wife, Kasey) Bowman of Orlando, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Her family requests that any memorial donations please be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in June's name.
