Kathryn H. (Kay) Mutti, 91, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2009 at Good Samaritan Village, Fort Collins, Colorado. Kathryn was born July 18, 1918 in Salina, Kansas to John and Mildred Neptune Harmon. She spent her earliest years on the family farm, and later moved with her family to Bransville, Missouri and Clay County, Illinois. She attended McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois and received bachelors and masters degrees in child development from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She married Ralph Joseph Mutti in 1943. They had three children and made their home in Champaign-Urbana for the next 30 years. Kay was the director of Christian Education at Wesley Methodist Church in Urbana, subsequently taught at a Coop Nursery School and served on the Champaign Public School Board. She accompanied her husband, Joe to Sierra Leone in 1966-67 and taught faculty children from around the world at Njala University College. In 1974 Kay and Joe retired to Fort Collins, where they farmed and gardened a small acreage north of town. They enjoyed hosting international students. Kay was an active member of the United Day Care board and was proud of the community commitment to build their new facility in 1985. For over 50 years she was a member of United Methodist Women. Kay is survived by her sister, Jean Fisher of Fort Collins, by her three children, Jane of Parker Island, British Columbia, Jack of Grinnell, Iowa, and Larry of Alexandria, Pennsylvania, by 5 grandchildren and by 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters and her husband. The family is very appreciative of the staff at Good Samaritan Village and Kay's friends and family in Fort Collins for their loving care and support. A Celebration of Life will be held for Kay at the First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover Street, Fort Collins, CO at 10 am Saturday, January 9, 2010. Student Conservation Association - provides young people with hands-on opportunity to serve and protect national parks building the next generation of conservation leaders. American Indian College Fund - provides scholarship support to tribal colleges as well as funding cultural preservation projects and capital construction at the colleges. United Methodist Women - provides food, shelter, education, employment, healthcare and human rights advocacy for women, youth and children, many living on the margins of society in the United States and around the world.
