Kay Campbell

Mar 24, 1936 — Sep 12, 2011

Kay Campbell Marilyn Kay Campbell, 75, a longtime resident of rural Wellington area, died at her home Monday September 12th after an extended battle with cancer. Kay was born March 24th, 1936 to Enid and Clarence Rice at home in Anderson, Indiana. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1953, held an office job after high school, and then went to Colorado A & M College in Ft. Collins where she attended First Baptist Church and found Jesus as her Savior. She married Bill Campbell on Sept. 11, 1959. They had three children, Sally, Dean, and Keith. Kay met Bill in college and they were married in the same church she was saved in. As a young married couple they enjoyed working on a ranch in New Mexico for a while after college then Bill entered military service and was stationed in El Paso, Texas. Upon his leaving the army, Kay and Bill moved to Indiana and bought a 50 acre farm where they raised sheep, cattle, horses and their three kids. In 1976 they sold the farm and packed everything up, moving back to New Mexico with the plan of buying land and living their dream of ranching as a family. After being a homemaker and helpmeet for 18 years, Kay lost the love of her life in an airplane accident in 1977, and had to face raising the 3 kids alone. She moved the little family north to Ft Collins, for the larger opportunities that area provided. Once settled on her 10 acres near Wellington, Kay went to work for Horton Feedlots, later she was employed by Nelsons at Cactus Hill Truck Center. She then went to work at the CSU Equine Center and finally she was employed until retirement at the Colorado Seed Growers Assn at CSU. Kay was a member of Front Range Baptist Church for many years. Kay loved the Lord Jesus and her fondest wish was for all her friends and family to come to know and love Him too. Kay spent much of her time and efforts on her grand kids. She also enjoyed horses, cats and dogs, camping and hiking in the mountains, gardening, riding her bike, feeding the birds and digging up noxious weeds like goat heads and sandburs. Both Kay and Bill preferred to go by their middle names rather than their first names. She is survived by her children: Sally Silhasek and husband, Bob of Alliance, Nebraska; Dean Campbell and wife Ana Paula of Brazil, currently living in California; and Keith Campbell of Ft. Collins. Grandchildren: Kacey and Ryan Campbell, Hannah and Molly Silhasek. She is also survived by her brother, Rex Rice and wife Nancy. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 17th at 2 pm at the Wellington Senior Center, use the west entrance to the library building. Burial will be in Clayton, NM at a later date. Memorials may be made to Kay's Grandkids College Fund, in care of Goes Funeral Care.
