Kenneth David Harris was born in Pennsylvania in 1950 and was the only child of Kenneth and Ruth Harris. He was named after his father and a family friend. Known by his middle name, David, which appropriately means "beloved," most called him Dave. He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Slippery Rock Area High School and Bucknell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Dave was a miracle, having been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor at the age of 33, he lived another 40 years despite the statistics. He touched many lives before he passed peacefully in 2024 in Colorado at the age of 74.
Three things were of utmost importance to Dave – his faith, his family and his friends. He became a committed follower of Jesus Christ in 1981. As a result, he studied the Bible, attended and taught numerous Bible studies, had a servant heart, was a man of prayer, and has now begun his eternal journey with his Savior and Lord.
Dave was married in 1971 to Joyce in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Their love story is one with many ups and downs, twists and turns but ended strong, lasting almost 53 years while residing in 7 states and 3 foreign countries, plus calling 26 places home! They had two children, their daughter, Jennifer and their son, Scott. Both Jen and Mark Sleeter and Scott and Carrie Harris were married in 1999. Dave was extremely proud of both children, their spouses and all their accomplishments in life, including five grandchildren Lauren, Terrell, Colin, Ashley and Belinda. He also became a spiritual parent to several who became family regardless of whether they were younger or older than him.
He made numerous friends throughout his life, some for a short time and some for a lifetime. From grade school to high school to college and career, he was loyal to and cared deeply about his relationships whether it was playing baseball, basketball or golf together, or bridge at the Sig Ep frat house, or encouraging one another over Saturday breakfasts, or online with the guys in Bible Study Fellowship.
After college, Dave also enlisted in the United States Air Force for 3 years, but because of his love for his country and his fellowman, he became an officer and served over 20 years, retiring as a Major. He respected both those he served under and those who served under him and felt that was a unique perspective he had acquired in his varied service. Following his retirement he worked for SATEC Systems, Inc until his 2nd retirement.
In 2018, Dave and Joyce made their last move to Loveland, Colorado to be near family. They lived in two different 55+ communities. Even health issues did not dampen his involvement in the varied activities available in both locations until the last several months. He invested in people to the end.
