Kenneth Woelfle

d. Sep 1, 2023

Kenneth Eugene Woelfle, 84, of Windsor, Colo., died September 1, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with heart disease. Up until the end he was fighting to recover from a broken hip to be back home with Janice Woelfle, his wife of 37 years.

Ken was a family man, an avid mountain man, hunter, sports fanatic, dog lover, and a devoted member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Ken graduated with a master's degree in education from Colorado State University. He taught high school woodworking and later began working for Horace Mann as an insurance agent. Soon after, Ken opened his own insurance agency where he worked until retirement.

Ken kept working even after retirement into his 70s and 80s as an usher for the Colorado Rockies and the Budweiser Event Center. Always a man who could never sit still, he also worked as a cashier at a local convenience store. He loved to talk with people, often breaking into conversation in restaurants with the people at the adjoining table.

He loved sharing his love of nature with his family. He and Janice would invite family and friends up to their cabin at Red Feather Lakes, where he would take them on horseback rides or hikes around the 40 acres of their property. Ken would then cook them up a mean breakfast in the morning!

In addition to his wife Janice, Ken is survived by his three children from his first marriage to Joyce Cotting (deceased): Ron (JoAnn) Woelfle of Nehalem, Or.; Dee (John) Simmons of Salem, Ore., and Gary (Julie) Woelfle of Roatan Island, Honduras; his stepchildren from his second marriage to Geri Pease (deceased): Cory Smathers and Renee Smathers (deceased), and his stepchildren from his marriage to Janice: Colleen (Bill) Fisher of Gilbert, Ariz.; Kathy Hiner of Canton, Mich.; and Dan (Elaine) Shannon of Westminster, Colo.; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents William Gordon Woelfle and Dorathea Beuermann Woelfle of Loveland, Colo.; his brother Gordon (Nona) Woelfle of Fort Collins, Colo., and his sister Carol Noel also of Fort Collins.

We will miss Ken's wry sense of humor, his stories of growing up in northern Colorado, and the wonderful way he took care of everyone who needed help. He was a truly colorful man who could never be replaced.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Worship and Music Ministries of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
