Kevin Gilbert

Jul 2, 1965 — Nov 25, 2009

Kevin Shrauner Gilbert, 44, formerly of Fort Collins, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Winter Park, Colorado where he lived for the past 10 years. Kevin and his twin sister Kathryn were born to Jay and Mildred Shrauner Gilbert on July 2, 1965 in Topeka, Kansas. Kevin graduated from Topeka High School in 1983 and attended Cornell College where he introduced his twin sister to her husband, Doug Hay. He lived with Kathryn and Doug for several years and played a special role raising his nephews Griffin and Keaton Hay. Kevin worked in the restaurant and hospitality industry and loved to cook and care for his friends and family. He and his mom spent hours cooking and bickering in the kitchen about just the right way to prepare their special meals. Kevin was an avid skier, mountain biker and hiker. He loved sharing the out of doors with his niece and nephews and he could always be counted on to find that extra ski pass. He enjoyed experiencing different cultures and spent time travelling in Asia, Europe, Russia, Mexico and Central America. Kevin was a caring soul who always gave more than he took. He never asked for anything more than a chance to spend time with his family and friends. Kevin loved to read history and politics and spent hours and hours reading The Hobbit and Harry Potter to his nephews. Kevin's older brother Kermit, his wife Deborah, and their son Graham live in Belfast, Maine. His younger brother, Kent and his wife Karla and their kids Erick and Nicole live in Alajuela, Costa Rica. His immediate family, extended family and loved ones will celebrate a public memorial service held at First United Methodist Church at Stover and Elizabeth on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.
