Kevin Montey

Jun 11, 1960 — Jan 21, 2026

Kevin Montey, 65, passed away on the evening of January 16th peacefully at his Fort Collins home. He was with his three children, Nicole, Kelsey, and Travis.

Kevin endured a 6-month battle following a severe stroke in July 2025, where he underwent two surgeries, months long hospital stays, and unfortunately was unable to recover from the stroke that took away his independence.

Kevin was a fiercely independent person, who found happiness spending time with his friends, kids, and 5 grandchildren. For anyone who knew Kevin, you know he loved his dogs, or "puppy dogs" as he called them. One of his favorite activities was hunting, and his dogs were always at his side. His black lab Thunder and his brittany spaniel Smokey were his pride and joy, and they are certainly missing him.

Kevin enjoyed just about anything that involved being outside; whether it was motorcycle rides with his friends, scuba diving trips to Mexico, bike rides or hunting, being outside is where he found a lot of happiness.

Kevin was born in Greeley Colorado in 1960, and was a track star through high school, which took him to attend Colorado State University where he achieved his bachelor's degree. He was a long-time entrepreneur, operating his own roofing business, followed by his own landscape/lawn care business. Recently, Kevin was hoping to slow down and work less, to spend more time doing things he loved. The world seemed to have other plans for him.

Kevin is survived by his three children and 5 grandchildren and two dogs. Nicole and Lucas Hackel of Wesley Chapel Florida, and their two boys Caleb and Troy. Kelsey and Matt Jacobchick of Windsor Colorado, and their two children Carter and Luca. Travis and Christie Montey of Orlando Florida, and their son August. Kevin is also survived by his mother Lavon Montey, as well as his 5 siblings: Judy Brunk, Sue Montoya, Keith Montey Jr, Sandy Raisley, and Wayne Montey.

He was preceded in death by his father Keith Montey Sr. and his twin brother Kelvin.
