Larry Spence

Sep 26, 1953 — Apr 14, 2025

Larry passed away at home on April 14th after fighting lung cancer and congestive heart failure.

Born in Fort Collins, CO to Bedford and Eleanor Spence. Larry was raised in Fort Collins, and lived in Chicago, IL for a year when he was 5. Larry's dad was a home builder which in turn he taught Larry the trade. When Larry was 24 he managed Diamond Lumber, now Sutherlands, located on Prospect. Larry relocated to the Denver area in 1984 and worked for different lumber companies. In 1989, an opportunity came up with Spenard Builders Supply in Anchorage, Alaska. The family relocated there in 1990. They had said, let's go to Alaska for three to five years then move back to Colorado. Larry and his wife Pam fell in love with the state of Alaska and they lived there for almost 30 years. Larry managed different SBS branches in different locations including Anchorage, Wasilla, Big Lake and one being in Barrow, Alaska, now known as Utqiagvik, which is the most northern city in the US. There, Larry was able to see the true Alaskan life with the native people. He was able to experience seeing polar bears right outside the windows of the store and watched the natives bring whales up on the beach and in turn would share the whale meat with the community. It was quite the experience Larry had in a bush community.

Larry is survived by his wife Pam and two sons, the first Jeff (Amy) from his first marriage, and Shaun (Allison) whom he shared with Pam. He has one grandson, Connor and two granddaughters, Madelyn and Chloe, which he so loved. Larry was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Randy. Larry has two remaining brothers, Dave (Lorraine) and Steven. At this time, no services are planned.
