Lavaun Wilson

May 19, 1918 — Oct 10, 2008

LaVaun "Vonnie" Wilson, age 90 of Ft. Collins, Colorado was reunited with her beloved husband two days after their 69th wedding anniversary, on October 10, 2008 at Good Samaritan Village, her home for the past year. LaVaun Arlene Tozer, was born May 9, 1918 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Walter and Robena Tozer. She married Thomas Harold Wilson on October 8, 1939. Throughout her life she lived in Clear Lake, Ottumwa, Mason City and Des Moines, Iowa as well as Grand Junction, Colorado before retiring in Bella Vista, Arkansas. After Tom's death in 1990, Vonnie moved to Ft. Collins to be near family. During her lifetime, Vonnie was an exceptionally devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother as well as a dear friend to many. She also enjoyed many careers outside of the home including working as a Bank Teller in Ottumwa; in the business office at St. Mary's Hospital; and at the Teacher's Credit Union in Grand Junction. Vonnie was always active whether it be taking long walks, playing golf and bridge, camping, gardening and boating, traveling, riding with her grandchildren on the golf cart around the neighborhood or keeping the hummingbirds and deer fed in her yard. She is survived by two daughters, Jean ( and husband, Gary) Carnes of Ft. Collins and Judy (and husband, Mike) Sawyer of Hayward, CA; grandchildren Todd (and Joanne) Parker of Virginia Beach, VA, Julie Parker of Ft. Collins, CO, Amy (and Harold) Jaramillo of Castle Rock, CO, Jennifer Bilsing of Tacoma, WA, Nathan (and Azadeh) Sawyer of Hayward, CA, Jessica (and Steve) Wilson of Emeryville, CA, Toby (and Jessica) Willett of Sanford, CO and Matt Willett of Manassas Park, VA; her great-grandchildren, Caleb and Cody Jaramillo, Jessica and Benjamin Parker and Peyton and Riley Willett; and Vonnie's sister Martha Jane (and husband Gene) Chisman of Ottumwa, Iowa. Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband Tom; daughters, Patti Jo Wilson and Jane Ann Willett; and her brother Glenn Tozer. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 14th at Blessed John 23rd University Parish in Ft. Collins, where Vonnie was an active member including baking bread for communion as well as participating in the phone prayer chain. Her family would like to thank all of the wonderful Doctors, Nurses and CNA's who cared for Vonnie in such loving and respectful ways throughout her later years with us. The family requests that any memorial contributions please be made, in LaVaun's memory, to Hospice of Larimer County, or to a local Hospice of your choosing.
