Lee Settle, age 92, died March 23, 2026, at her home in MorningStar Assisted Living in Fort Collins, CO. She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on January 28, 1934, the daughter of T. Wilson and Pat Robbins.
She spent her childhood years in Wytheville, VA, but graduated from high school in Rocky Mount, NC. She became a Registered Nurse after graduating from the Wake Forest Medical School Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She actively nursed for several years at other hospitals, including Duke Hospital in Durham, NC
Shortly before completing her studies, she met the love of her life, Joseph E. Settle, while he was still in college at NC State University in Raleigh, NC. In December 1956, they married and began a blessed 69 years together. When he graduated, they began their life adventures which included moving dozens of times and living in nine different states, all the while thoroughly enjoying living in multiple locations and making dear precious friends wherever she went.
Throughout the years and places, she served in multiple community service roles, one example being that for two years she was President of the Symphony Guild for the Johnson City-Kingsport Symphony, following years of being a Girl Scout Leader for the troops in which her daughters participated. No matter where she lived, she enjoyed traveling and learning all about the local and nearby areas in which she resided, as well as especially enjoying international travel.
Lee is predeceased by her father, Wilson Robbins, her mother, Patsy Robbins, and her sister, Betty MacDermut. She is survived by her husband, Joe, daughters Kim Southard (husband Jim) of Fort Collins, CO, and Ruth Yates (husband John) of Pflugerville, TX. She has been blessed with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Lee was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was loved by all who experienced the kindness, concern, and love she bestowed on everyone she knew.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Collins at 1 p.m., April 11, 2026, followed by a reception.
