Lela "Lee" Coleman

d. Aug 24, 2021

Lela "Lee" Coleman, 99, passed away August 24, 2021 in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Born in Independence Missouri, she liked to say that Harry S Truman babysat her when she was an infant.

She moved to a five acre farm in Argentine, Kansas where she grew up through high school.

Her family moved to St. Louis after high school and she attended school, got a job and married Ollie Coleman in 1949.

Mom was from a generation and a time when "I do" was a promise you kept.
Dad died a couple months before their 65th wedding anniversary in 2014.

Mom was devoted to her family and her church. She sewed cancer bandages for the Peregrine society. Played in the kitchen band at church and volunteered at the school. She defined herself in terms of her relationship with others; daughter, sister, wife, mother.

Kind and compassionate.

She and dad prayed the rosary every night.

She was Nurse Nancy in the neighborhood.

She was frugal but generous. Dad put her in charge of the household finances. They supported many charitable causes and put two sons through college.

Mom was a good fisherman, good seamstress. Liked to knit and crochet. Lots of funny stories like fishing in a dream state one night. Soaking her line in the cold water to let the cheese bait cool … she woke up holding her rosary over the edge of the bed.

She played games, enjoyed Rummy-cube, Bingo and Crossword puzzles, not because of the game but because of the personal interaction which went along with them. She was always concerned about how she looked and whether others were happy. "I'm a mess" and "I'm sorry" were two of her favorite sayings.

Her sons were her life. She was proud of them. They were perfect. They could do no wrong. But they will never be half the persons she thought they were.

Lee's family requests for any donations to be made, in lieu of flowers, to St. Joseph Catholic Parish, in her memory:
