Lela Mae Winfrey left this life on September 16th, 2024 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was born February 17, 1948 in La Junta, Colorado to Laverne and DeEtta Winfrey.
She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado as part of the first class to graduate under the college's new name with a degree in education. She then worked for Fashion Bar in Greeley until January of 1975, when she started her 36 year teaching career with Windsor Middle School and taught there until her retirement in May of 2011.
Lela Mae was a central part of her family. She was always at her nephews and nieces activities cheering them on whether it was sports, dance or showing livestock. Everyone could count on her to be available to help with anything they needed.
Lela Mae was a strong believer in the Lord and left this life in that joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marylin White and brother-in-law Roy White. She is survived by her sister Janetta Gustafson, brother-in-law Randy Gustafson, nephews James White, Ryan Gustafson, Cole Gustafson and nieces Kattye (White) Sutton and Kylie (Gustafson) Schrader, ten great nephews and nieces and six great great nephews and nieces.
A celebration of Lela Mae's life will be held at the Laporte Outreach Church, 220 N Taft Hill Rd, Fort Collins, CO on September 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pathway's Hospice, The Alzheimer Association or a charity of your choice
