Leroy Lujan

Leroy Lujan, 56, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Friday, August 15th 2014. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for over six years; never letting the disease take over his love of life.

Leroy was born on June 22, 1958 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Larry and Mary Lujan. He attended school in Fort Collins and Windsor, Colorado. After high school he worked as a mechanic for a few years before he found his true calling in the construction industry. Leroy was a talented equipment operator and had a complete knowledge of concrete construction. He spent his career laying the foundations for buildings and in life, for his family. Leroy had an amazing problem solving ability; this could have been from being raised on a farm. When problems came up during construction and they always do; he found a way to fix the problem and move forward. He could have made a career in just consulting for others, but he was there to help.

He owned and operated his own successful construction company for years. Leroy was responsible for encouraging two of his brothers, son and his nephews to enter the construction industry. They too, are very successful… Thank you Leroy!

Leroy loved his toys, from the restored Camaros to his Harley Davidson motorcycle. If he was not racing on the quarter-mile tracks, he was constantly surrounded by his family and friends.

Towards the end, the greatest joy came from riding his Harley Davidson and spending time with his grandchildren. Leroy showed amazing strength and courage near the end; this was very important to him. He wanted his grandchildren to not fear death, but to face it head on. To JR and the boys, Anthony, Adam, Abraham and Andrew; this was his wish. To the outside world, Leroy showed a hard, gruff, "take no prisoners" attitude, but inside he was a kind, loving and caring good man. He kept his charitable contributions quiet, but it is important for all to know that he gave to those in need throughout his life.

Leroy is survived by his true love, Dawn; his son, Leroy Jr of Fort Collins; Lorraine Soto of Fort Collins; Kristy Lujan-Dominguez of Iowa; Nicole Kois of Kersey; his parents, Larry and Mary Lujan of Windsor; brothers, Larry, Jim, Clarence and Robert; sisters, Susie Lambrecht and Clara Wells; grandchildren, Anthony, Adam, Abraham, Andrew, Connor, Jesse, Gabby, Chloe, Alicia and Andreas.

He was preceded in death by his brother Anthony and all of his grandparents.

A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9:30 AM, Wednesday, August 20th 2014 with a Reception to follow at the Holy Family Church on North Whitcomb in Fort Collins, Colorado.
