LeRoy H. Wichman suffered a cardiac arrest on the morning of January 30, 2012. He was the devoted and dedicated father to Aaron and Moira Wichman, and loving husband of Mary Frances Wichman. LeRoy was the seventh of eight children born to John and Bernadina Wichman in Seneca, Kansas. He studied at the Emporia State University and was awarded BA and MS degrees in Education. He then moved on to one of his passions: exploring the world and other cultures, which he did as a teacher of the children of military personnel in Libya, Japan, and Germany. It was while teaching in Japan in 1970 that he met and married the love of his life, Mary Frances Dale. In their free time, they loved to travel. His career spanned over 40 years, teaching dependents of military personnel overseas. LeRoy retired in 2002 and returned to the United States, making Fort Collins, CO his new home. In retirement, he devoted much time to teaching foreign students and foreign priests English. He volunteered with Catholic Charities and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Leroy was a man who lived his faith in service to others. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Mary Frances; son, Aaron (and wife Sarah) Wichman of Bowling Green, KY and their daughter Breanne; his daughter, Moira Wichman of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Marilyn Lierz of Kansas City, MO and Araline Spielman of Muscotah, KS; a brother, Kenneth Wichman of Shawnee, KS. LeRoy was preceded in death by siblings, Adelaide Schmitz, Emmett and Ralph Wichman, and Evelyn Nash. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 5450 S. Lemay Ave., Ft. Collins. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 7:00 pm Thursday. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 am Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mountain & Howes St., Ft. Collins . He will be laid to rest at 11:00 am Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas. His family requests that any memorial donations please be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
