Lou Dell Whilhite was born near Mangum, Oklahoma to Roy and Velma Hogan, being one of six sisters and one brother. The Hogan family moved to the small west Texas town of Muleshoe when Lou Dell was very young.
She grew up and married her first boy friend, H.L. "Doc" Wilhite, whose family had moved from western Oklahoma to the Muleshoe area. Lou Dell and Doc were married in September of 1937. To this union was born one daughter, Jera Lynn, and two sons, Carrel and Rod. They moved the family to Fort Collins in 1956. She worked with her husband in the general contracting business, and she later worked at the CSU bookstore for 28 years. Always grateful for the opportunities she had been given – serving on several committees, and as a volunteer with the Foreign Mission Board (SBC) in Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Venezuela, and Mexico.
Lou Dell shared her talents as both church organist in Northern Colorado and a love as a gifted artist in oils, water color, and pen and ink. She studied art at CSU, Europe, and with several artists.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doc Wilhite; her daughter Jera Lynn Saul; a grandson, Randall Mark Saul; and a son, Carrell Wilhite.
She is survived by a son, Rod (wife Bobbie Wilhite); Ann Wilhite (wife of Carrell); a granddaughter; and son Lori and Michael Scott, and a great grand daughter Katie Scott.
