Lucille H. Phelan, 88, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away on Sunday, October 13th
in Loveland, CO at Medical Center of the Rockies.
She was born in Craig, CO on July 30th, 1925 to Walter and Juanita Hammond
and after high school moved to Denver where she graduated from Loretto Heights
College with degrees in sociology and music.
Luci met her husband Thomas Phelan while attending college and was married
September 4, 1948. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this year. They raised their
five children in De Pere, Wisconsin. She enjoyed teaching piano at St. Norbert College in
De Pere and later returned to school to earn her masters degree in library science at
UW-Oshkosh, Wisconsin. After ten years as librarian at Abbot Pennings High School she
and Tom retired to Albuquerque, NM. In retirement she and Tom worked as
missionaries with the Norbertine Community. Then Luci and Tom returned to their
native Colorado to be near family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Juanita Hammond, and grand
children Alexander and Troy Phelan, infant sons of Brian. Luci is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Phelan, daughter Sheila Balloffet (Armando): four sons, Sean (Tammy), Brian (friend Jo), Terrence, Patrick (friend Barb):grandchildren, Nicole (Marco), Nathan (Sarah), Philip (friend Sarah), Jason (friend Jordan), Sara, Dylan, Jessica, Casey, Alexander, Erin: great grandchildren, Evie, and Diego.
A Memorial Mass will be held at the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 5450 South
Lemay Ave., Fort Collins, Colorado 80525, on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at 10 a.m.
She will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
