Lucretia (Cretia) Ann Sherrod of Ft. Collins, CO, passed into the promised land May 8, 2022; she was 62 years old. She was born to Allison David and Lou Jean Sherrod.
The family moved from Denver, CO, to an isolated Indian village in northern Manitoba, Canada, when she was 10 years old. The family spent 5 years there while her father taught school in the village. While living in Cormorant she enjoyed fishing, camping, canoeing, and horseback riding. She returned to Colorado and graduated from South High School in Denver. Then she went on to CSU and received a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Soil Science. Cretia then worked for the Agricultural Research Service of the USDA in her dream job as a soil scientist where she stayed until her death. She loved her dogs, camping, fishing, canoeing, riding her 4-wheeler, shooting clay pigeons (often beating the guys), and a good beer! She was a loyal and true friend to many and fiercely independent. She was passionate about the soil and the science she did to help us manage it, protect it, and help it to flourish. She courageously battled cancer for a year and remained in her home until she passed away holding her twin sister's hand.
She is survived by her sister Dr. Jan Sherrod-Mossberg (Jerry) of Ft. Collins, her nephew Zach Sherrod of Kimball NB, her niece Rebecca Schwendeman (Scott) and their children Blake, Bruin, Bryndil, and Berkshire of Minnesota. Stepchildren Brett Tooley of Greeley, CO, Brianna Tooley of Portland Oregon, cousins Brian Olesen (Judy) of Palisade, CO, Linda Dryman and Jane (Reed) Nelson both of North Carolina; Pam (Howard) Jordi of Massachusetts, Eric Goodwin of Texas.
She is also survived by her beloved 14-year-old chocolate lab "Little Bear". Cretia was predeceased by Allison David Sherrod (father), Lou Jean Sherrod (mother), David W. Sherrod (brother), Dr. Jerry Mossberg (brother-in-law).
There will be a celebration of life at 4:00 pm on Friday May 20th at the Rist Canyon Inn with a reception immediately after the service. Her internment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ft. Collins water works (poudrelandmarks.org) or the American Cancer Society.
