Lucy Vigil-Mondragon AKA "Grandma Jucie" to her grandchildren and "Mom'" to her siblings, went home to Jesus on 3 December 2019, after a brief time with Pathways Hospice Care Center in Loveland, Colorado. She was treated with a great deal of compassion and respect from the Medical, Social and Spiritual Teams. Her family would like to express their gratitude to each person who assisted in Lucy's care.
Lucy was born in Alamosa, Colorado on 30 July 1931 to Santiago and Sarah (Serna) Vigil. Lucy was 88 years young at the time of her departure. She spent her childhood years in various towns in Northern New Mexico. Lucy graduated in 1946 from Dawson High School.
She married Esquiel Mondragon AKA "Zeke" on 12 May 1950 at Saint Joseph's Church in Springer, New Mexico. Ten years later the happy couple and their children moved to Fort Collins, Colorado.
Lucy was blessed with several brothers and sisters, Augustine (Pueblo CO), June Nededog (Fort Collins, CO), Maria Gonzales (Fort Collins CO), Manuel Vigil – Virginia (Fort Collins CO), Dan Vigil – Janet (Albuquerque, NM), Mary Jo Lucero - Paul (Fort Collins CO), Salomon Vigil (Fort Collins CO), Juan Vigil – Kathy (Farmington, NM), Susan Cruggs - Marvin (Eaton CO), Gloria Turonek - Alan (Anahiem, CA)
Lucy dedicated her heart and soul to her job of 35 year at the Salvation Army. She touched many lives with her generosity and colorful humor and made lifelong friends.
Lucy was preceded in death by her Mother Sarah, Father Santiago, Husband Zeke, two daughters-in-Law Kathy Mondragon and Penny Mondragon. We celebrate Lucy joining her family in paradise.
Surviving Lucy is her children, Esquiel R. (Worland, WY), James A – Jeannie Maxwell (Fort Collins CO), Fred A. (Worland, WY), Cindy Lucero - Daniel (Fort Collins CO), Jean Ridnour - Brian (Wheatland, WY), Christina Chambers – Clifford (Fort Collins CO), Rebecca Zamora - Juan (Fort Collins CO), and Roger L (Fort Collins CO)
Lucy was blessed with 32 beautiful grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, 8 great, great grandchildren all of whom she cherished
Lucy's children would like to thank everyone for the love, compassion and respect you have given our mother over the years. We love her deeply and she will be missed – we will celebrate her life together. Peace be with you all.
