Mardi Hanna, a resident of Ft.Collins for more than fifty years, has passed on from her life. She died at Poudre Valley Hospital on October 25 after a long illness. A strong, fiercely independent, adventurous and resourceful person, Mardi lived on her own in her own home until a few days before her passing.
Mardi loved Ft. Collins, having discovered it and the people who became her closest friends after she moved there after high school. She was born in and lived in Houston, Texas until her family moved to New Jersey where she attended high school. Mardi considered herself a Coloradoan - skiing, hiking, and exploring the beautiful state while developing life-long friendships. These friends shared Mardi's love of the outdoors and travel and they went on trips together to New Zealand, Peru, Israel, Mexico, and Europe. She traveled with family to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and Italy.
After completing her R.N. training in Cheyenne, Mardi flourished as a psychiatric nurse at Poudre Valley Hospital where she was privileged to run therapy groups in addition to her other nursing duties. She was a sensitive practitioner and touched many people's lives. Her work in the mental health area led to more lasting friendships with colleagues.
An animal lover, Mardi provided a nurturing home for her dogs and cats and also cared for the squirrels and birds that visited her garden. She loved her garden and it grew abundantly with flowers, vegetables, fruit trees and evergreens.
Unfortunately, after her retirement, Mardi's ability to care for her home and garden, as well as her ability to travel and socialize outside her home were affected by painful medical conditions. Nevertheless, she was able to live independently in her home thanks to her determination and help of loving friends and family.
Mardi is survived by many friends, her brother Paul Hanna, niece Tracy Hanna, her sister Elizabeth
Makino, nephews Benjamin and Mark Makino, and grandnieces Maia, Serriah and Kazuki.
Mardi requested that no memorial service be held.
