Margaret (Meg) Blood

Margaret (Meg) Millward Blood, 99, passed away on February 8, 2024 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Meg was born August 21, 1924 and grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey, located near New York City. A talented artist from childhood, Meg received an art scholarship to Cooper Union University in New York City and after graduation, worked in the city as a commercial graphic artist for the prestigious Mccann Erickson Advertising Agency. In 1947, Meg travelled abroad for the first time to marry diplomat Archer K Blood at a Greek church at his first post in Thessaloniki, Greece thus embarking as an active partner in her husband's successful and impactful career with the Department of State; a career that took them to Algeria, Greece (two tours), Germany (two tours), two tours in East Pakistan(now Bangladesh), Afghanistan, and lastly India, Archer's final posting in the foreign service where he served as Minister Counselor and later Charge' d'Affaires of the US Embassy. Over the many years she spent as the matron of a foreign service family, Meg developed into a grand lady of finesse, grace, and cultural sensitivity. She retained a genuine warmth of character and openness that endeared her to legions of friends and admirers both here and abroad. Meg was remarkably consistent in how she treated people, and was a most kind and calming presence in the lives of her husband and children, and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren and their offspring. She was widely known to have a friendly, open, and generous outlook on life. Meg spent her last 26 years in Fort Collins, a city which she and Archer (who passed in 2004) came to love as a friendly, enriching, and beautiful city.

Meg was predeceased by her husband Archer K Blood, her parents John Roscoe Millward and Marie Lauretta Breslin, and her two sisters, Shirley Millward and Joyce Zeiller (Millward). She is survived by her four children: Shireen Updegraff of Ft Collins Co., Bobbi Rankin of Denver Co, Peter Ross Blood of Alexandria, Va, and Archer L. Blood of Chardon, Ohio. In addition, she is survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
