Margaret M. (Sam) Baldwin, 91, died Sunday, July 3, 2016, in Fort Collins.
A native of Illinois, she was born Margaret Merrie Ellis on December 6, 1924, and came to Denver as a child, where she was cared for by relatives. In 1949 she married Robert Lee Baldwin. The couple had two children, Wendy Elizabeth and Eric Charles.
Known to her friends and family as Sam, she worked for the government in Japan as part of the post-war occupation and met her husband there. He was later stationed in Germany; Sam returned to the US with her two small children and the couple divorced. She did office work for the Anti-Defamation League, other organizations, and the United States Environmental Agency Region 8 until retiring several years ago and moving to Fort Collins.
Her free spirit and love of adventure led her to mountaintops, along back roads, and on meandering walks with her little dog, Kia. She was always ready to tell an entertaining story over a cup of coffee about her life experiences and her childhood.
Margaret Baldwin is survived by her son, Eric, of Long Beach, California; granddaughters Melinda Dawn (Mindi) Marshall and Kristen Deanna (Krissy) Bell; grandson Brandan Baldwin; great-grandchildren Tyler Marshall, Melody Marshall , Maycie and Dakota Wynn, Logan Bell, Griffin and Sonia Baldwin, and Corine Salsby, and great-great grandchildren Ashlynn Marshal and Madison Murray.
In recent years she resided at The Residence at Oakridge, 4750 Wheaton Drive, Fort Collins. A celebration of her life will be held there at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 11.
