Margo Daugaard

Margo Daugaard, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Pathways Hospice in Fort Collins, CO surrounded by her family.

Margo Olivia Lozana Marquez was born to Miguel Marquez and Emma Garcia Marquez in Denver, Colorado on December 17, 1951. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Mike Daugaard, and her two children Nicole Schmidt and Soren Daugaard. Nicole is married to Bill and has two children, Hayden and Emma Schmidt. Soren is married to Sigrid and has two children, Stina and Johanna Daugaard. She is also survived by her sister Dolores Edwards of Daytona, Florida. She was preceded in death by her father, Miguel Marquez and her mother, Emma Garcia Marquez; and her brother, Richard Marcus. Her mother passed away when she was just 5 years old and her father when she was 15. She went to Mary Crest High School in Denver and then moved to Michigan where she met the Carr family. Blythe Carr and Margo were the best of friends and Blythe's family unofficially adopted her. Russ and Faye Carr became Nana and Granddaddy to their children and have been considered the dearest family ever since. Margo married Mike Daugaard on March 19, 1976.

Margo was a hairdresser for nearly 50 years. She put herself through beauty school and began her career at Nikki's Salon in Fort Collins in the early 70's and then moved on to owning Phase One Beauty Salon in 1978 for the remainder of her career. Mike made her a beautiful salon in the home he built where she could work and be home for her kids after school.

Margo never knew a stranger - many would say that they would consider her their family. With Margo, you didn't need to be blood to be family. She and Mike would always open their doors for Christmas, Sunday dinner or a Bronco game (her favorite). She was quick to make a pot of green chili and beans to feed a crowd. Big heart, big crowds - she was not afraid to pack 'em in and would always make space when needed.

Margo had a servant's heart. She volunteered her time and her family's time in homeless shelters, soup kitchens, visiting shut-ins, nursing homes and hospitals. She taught her kids a valuable lesson that all human life had dignity and deserved love. She taught religious education at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton for several years, volunteered at the church, cleaning the rectory, cooking for parish events, and serving on the funeral committee during the last several years. Her kids were both in 4-H and she was very active as a parent, judge, and volunteer. She really enjoyed that time in her life and the friends she made. Did we mention how much she loved babies? She helped raise nieces, nephews, neighbors and her grandchildren. She was "Grammie Margo" to so many, and that gave her so much joy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 6th at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Fort Collins, followed by a reception in the church hall. Margo will be laid to rest Tuesday, May 7th at 10:00 AM at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pathways Hospice of Fort Collins.
