Maria Thaddeus

Sep 18, 1919 — Mar 19, 2011

Maria Thaddeus (nee: Pincus), was born in Argentina, raised in Germany and lived – precariously, due to her Jewish ancestry – in Berlin through World War II. She emigrated to the United States in 1953 and moved to Fort Collins in 1992. After the war, Maria worked for the U. S. civilian administration in West Berlin before moving to New York. There she met the noted litterateur and biographer, Victor Thaddeus, whom she married in 1956. They lived in Arden, Delaware – a single tax community and artist colony – in a cottage that Victor (1895-1974) built with his own hands. Upon her husband's death, Maria – fluent in languages, filled with her life's narratives and honoring her deceased Love's legacy – embarked upon a notable career as storyteller and raconteur. Maria lectured in Fort Collins in 1982, and her infatuation with the area brought her back to stay a decade later. Since 1992, Maria has been a cherished and recognized voice in Fort Collins. Last Saturday, March 19, 2011, Maria passed away in her sleep. She was 91. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 25th at Parkwood Estates, 2201 S. Lemay Ave., Ft. Collins. Contributions in her memory may be made to Front Range Hospice, 685 Briggs St., Erie, CO 80516, or to a charity of your choice.
