Marie Bonacci Zegar of Fort Collins, CO, formerly of Omaha, NE died August 23, 2011 at Poudre Valley Hospital. Marie Kathleen Bonacci was born February 11, 1924 in Ossining, New York to Carl Carmelo and Fannie Bonacci. While very young, her family moved to Omaha where she graduated from Tech H.S., worked as a switchboard operator at Children's Hospital and married Joseph Thomas Zegar in 1948. Together they have two children. Marie later went to work as a receptionist at the doctor's office of Dr's. Smitz, Sr. and then the Jr. Her working was what it took for her to help both her children, Joanne, through Mercy and John through Creighton. They were devoted attendees of mass at St. Peters and St. Anne's Catholic Parishes. In 1980, Marie and Joe moved to Ft. Collins to be nearer to their grandchildren. Joe died in 1993. Devastated, she began to focus on her grandchildren as much as she could. Even her shopping excursions were mostly just for them. Marie was one of the founding members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Fort Collins and enjoyed her participation in the Forever Young Senior Club at S.E.A.S. She loved working for many years for Rocky Mountain Forest Library since living in Fort Collins. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne (and husband, Richard) Tusa and her son, John J. Zegar all of Ft. Collins; her sister, Jenny Gentilli of Denver; four grandchildren, Rich (and Cindy) Tusa of Ft. Collins, Tim(and Laura) Tusa of San Diego, Katie (and Jeff) Buck and Scott Tusa all of Honolulu, HI; great-grandchildren, Richie and Torrey Tusa, Kade, Raquel and Reef Tusa, and Kaden, Tristan, Kylan, Jordan and Madison Buck; two sisters-in-law, Laverna Bonacci of Omaha and Lucille Kennedy of Marysville, UT; a brother-in-law, Dick Kaplan; three nieces and two nephews; four great nieces and three great nephews; and one great-great niece. In addition to her husband, Joe, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Carmelo Bonacci, Jr, one of her sisters, Dorothy Kaplan; a brother-in-law, Joe Gentilli and a dear friend, Edna Lewien. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday at Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Dr., Suite E, Ft. Collins.
