Marilyn Marie Busteed-Roberts

Marilyn Roberts was born in Lewellan Nebraska to Mertie Elise Mardis /Roberts and Andrew Guy Roberts. Growing up on their farm in Lewellan, Marilyn's life was filled with farming and siblings. Marilyn was the tenth child of eleven that made up the Roberts clan. Her brothers included Bud, Ray, Dick, Myron, Dale and Charles and sisters Pauli, Barbara, Carrol, and Patty. Together they filled the local schools and community. At one time nearly every member of the football team was her brother. In 1957 she met and married Richard "Dick" Busteed from Ogallala. Shortly thereafter, Dick took a job on a seismograph crew which searched for potential oil locations in the western U.S. The job took the young couple through nearly every western state. It was during this time that Marilyn became pregnant and gave birth to the couple's first child, Patrick at the hospital in Craig Colorado. Soon after, the couple would move to Laramie Wyoming where they took up residence in a trailer in the back yard of Don and Doris Bunn who would become two of their dearest friends. Marilyn and Doris would come to share a friendship that would span some 65 years. As if by design, Doris and her would fittingly enjoy a walk together on what would be Marilyn's final day. In 1962 Dick and Marilyn moved back to Nebraska and gave birth to their second boy, Mitchell who was born in Oshkosh. A couple of more years brought their third son, Scott who was born in North Platte. Following the birth of Scott, Marilyn and Dick moved to Boulder Colorado where Dick worked as a brick layer before getting his real-estate license and starting Diagonal Real-Estate with a partner, John Rogers. Marilyn soon began pursuing her education again , eventually receiving a Master's degree in Psychology.

After Boulder, the family moved to Longmont and then Niwot. It was there that Dick purchased a sizeable amount of land in the Fort Collins area and the family moved once again. Fort Collins would be the family's final move. After a few years as a financial officer at the computer center at Colorado State University, Marilyn accepted a position as CFO at National Technical University. Her oldest son, Pat met and married Robin Pino. Marilyn and Mitch combined to renovate numerous buildings and establish a successful partnership which won awards for renovation largely in old town Fort Collins and Scott built a successful interior trim company. Marilyn also coauthored a book "Buffalo Run" with her oldest son, Pat. Throughout her life, Marilyn engaged in a myriad of pursuits including artistic endeavors in painting and sculpting. An interest in Astrology prompted her to write a book entitled "Phases of the Moon" which is still sought after decades later. Throughout her life, Marilyn made incredible and lasting friendships. Girl's weekends at Lake McConaughy, Virginia, Mexico, Europe and Florida provide lasting memories to her tight knit crew. The laughter they emanated could be heard around the world and still echos in the hearts of the ladies who joined her. In the early 2000's, Marilyn remet Doug Yeager who she had worked with at NTU. Doug became her constant companion for some twenty years. The two went on numerous adventures and spent winters in San Diego, Lake Havasu, and western Texas before foregoing travel largely due to Marilyn's health issues. Doug's death in December began a downward health cycle for Marilyn which culminated in her move to New Mercer and her passing. Marilyn was always a fighter successfully defeating Breast Cancer, a Heart Attack, and CLPD before succumbing on June 26, 2023. She is survived by her sister Carrol and the endless number of Robert's relatives, her sons, Pat (Robin), Mitch, and Scott. Grandchildren, Shawn, Chris, Jazmine, and Mac were recipients of her love. Great Grand children, Beckett and Harlow who she adored will never know how much she loved them. Marilyn was an incredible friend, worker, artist, writer, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother with enormous talent and a genuine love for her countless friends and relatives. Her adventures took her all over the world. She left an indelible impression on the people she touched. She will be missed.
