Marjorie Walsh

Mar 24, 1933 — Mar 1, 2010

Marjorie (Marj) Walsh was born to Mary and Fran Moran in Omaha, Nebraska on March 24th, 1933, and died in Fort Collins, Colorado on March 1st, 2010. Marj grew up in Lincoln, attending Sacred Heart and Saint Teresa grade schools and Lincoln High School. In 1954, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, with a Bachelor of Journalism and Public Relations, from the University of Nebraska. Marj earned her Masters of Public Relations from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she directed mail publicity for the U of W Management Institute. Her marriage to Richard Walsh, PhD, in 1954 produced four children. The family moved from Lincoln, Nebraska to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1968. Marj was a stay-at-home Mom for 16 years before entering the Transit field for 19 years as Executive Director of CARE-A-VAN, which sponsored RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer) and including SAINT (transportation by volunteers). For two years, she also administered the Transfort Bus System for the City of Fort Collins. During that time she secured grants for the combined City and CARE-A-VAN transportation maintenance facility on Trilby Road, and for the first nine full size buses for the Transport system. Marj was active in the church activities, the Rotary Club of Fort Collins, and a fan of the Lincoln Center Show Stopper Series. She retired in 1995 and became active in local theatre groups, such as the SOAP troupe. She also tap-danced with the "SOAP Toes". She used to joke that she was the "world's oldest living ingénue". In 2001, she became associated with the Mostlies Troupe, where her son, Bob, performed, while she worked in the production end. Marj was preceded in death by her father, Robert (Fran) Moran, her mother, Mary Ellen Carroll-Moran and infant brother, Robert Jr. She is survived by her four children, Cathi Hall, Pittsburgh PA, Susan Walsh, Denver CO, Fr. Tom Walsh, Sacred Heart Church, Lincoln NE, and Robert (Bob) Walsh, Fort Collins, CO. Marj was so proud of her granddaughters, Jessica, Jazz, Cleda, and Rosy, and great-grandsons, Max and Ivan, of Pittsburgh PA. A Rosary will be held Friday, March 5th, at 8:00 p.m., at John XXIII University Parish in Ft. Collins, CO. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, March 6th, at 11:00 a.m., also at John XXIII. She will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln Nebraska on Monday, March 8, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Sacred Heart School Expansion Fund, 540 N. 31st Street, Lincoln, NE 68503.
